WORKING TO CREATE 'A MORE HARMONIOUS WORLD GUITAR DRIVE' LAUNCHED

Holmdel, New Jersey – As part of its continuing efforts to improve the lives of children in Masaka, Uganda, and in particular the children at the Mbiriizi Primary School, Sylvia’s Children, a non-profit 501 (c)3 organization, has begun a guitar drive.

Sylvia’s Children was founded in 2004 when, while as an invited guest to Africa, Sylvia Allen, owner of a marketing communications firm, lecturer, educator and author, was “adopted” by the children and made their honorary grandmother. Allen saw the ravages the AIDS pandemic had on the community and was compelled to help her newly acquired grandchildren. She founded Sylvia’s children to feed, clothe and house orphans in Masaka and provide education for as many children as possible.

Following that family theme, Allen is planning a trip back to Uganda to visit her adopted grandchildren mid-June of this year and accompanying her will be her children, Michele and Tony Costa.

Michele and Tony, however, will not just be visiting and touring; they will be teaching and sharing their special talents with the children of Masaka. Michele, an accomplished New York City fashion designer, will share her drawing talents with the children. (www.teezetees.com) Tony, an accomplished musician and guitar teacher, plans to provide music lessons. (www.astronautjonesnj.com/www.muyspace.com/astronautjonesmusic)

Thus, the next goal of Sylvia’s Children is to enrich the lives of the children through the arts. Sylvia’s Children hopes to be able to supply the school with guitars for the children to play even after their visit so they are conducting a guitar drive. A collection has begun for guitars which can be dropped off or sent to Sylvia’s Children, 89 Middletown Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07733. Of course, monetary donations will also be accepted for the purchase of guitars for this initiative.
