October Update

For all of you who have been visiting the website, we are in the process of renovating it so bear with us. We need a good web person with a kind heart to donate their time to help us get it back in shape. If you are one of those, give me a call (732 946 2711).

Lots of good stuff to announce since the last newsletter:

1. A group of five students at Colts Neck (NJ) High School is undertaking a project to raise money for the school.

2. We have Ryan Dolan at Red Bank Catholic (NJ) High School who is collecting printer cartridges and old cell phones to raise money for Sylvia's Children.

3. A young lady in Wayne, NJ is using Sylvia's Children to get her Girl Scout Gold Award.

4. Doreen, my ballet teacher, had me participate in her temple's Mitzvah Day and we got several people to sign up as volunteers as well as selling some of the products.

5. We had our African craft sale and generated over $800 for the school.

6. Jeff Tuccillo is running to qualify for the 2010 New York City Marathon and will be running for Sylvia's Children. Let's start thinking about how we can sponsor him and make this a beautiful story for the world.

7. Go to this website ... http://www.v2v.net/starbucks ... and give your kudos for Sylvia's Children. Let's see if we can get their attention another way!

I found this WONDERFUL QUOTE ... for those of us who have had the wonderful experience of going to Uganda, Africa I think this will resonate with you. It is from William Dempster Hoard, 1836-1918, a politician and publisher:

"Happiness doesn't depend on what we have but it does depend on how we feel toward what we have. We can be happy with little and miserable with much."

As we prepare for our annual Christmas trip to the Mbiriizi Advanced Primary and Day School in Uganda, Africa we look at how little these children have and, yet, how happy they are. This year, for the Christmas party, each child will receive a Santa hat with a pencil, pencil sharpener, a Christmas Stars kazoo, a sun visor, sunglasses, candy cane, stickers, wrapped candy and crayons. They will be thrilled. As many of you know, we gave each of them their own blanket last year and this summer each child got a new pair of CROCS and socks.

We need your help to make this Christmas another memorable one for the children. We are approximately $2,000 short in our fundraising and I am asking if you will help us. I don't want to touch the money that has been donated for other components of the school nor do I want to touch the sponsor support money so I am asking if you could send a check or go to the website ... www.sylviaschildren.org ... click on the donate now button and fill in what you can give. It would be so greatly appreciated. And, on behalf of the children THANK YOU for caring.

With love,
Sylvia
