South African Zulu Singers To Visit New Jersey

Holmdel, NJ… New Jersey once again welcomes South African singing sensation Thula Sizwe, who will be doing a limited engagement tour of the Northeast this fall and will be performing several concerts in New Jersey. The group is composed of ten voices ranging from the deepest bass to the highest of tenors. They sing in the traditional Zulu call-and-response style and dance to the drum, to clapping hands, and to the sounds of their own voices.

The a capella singing group will perform on Saturday, October 30th at the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel. A portion of the proceeds of this concert will benefit Sylvia’s Children, a 501(c)3 that supports the Mbiriizi Day Care and Primary School in Uganda, Africa.

Tickets for the Atlantic City concert are a suggested donation of $25 each, and can be purchased by contacting Sylvia’s Children at 732-946-2711. A special group rate is available at the Sheraton for overnight stays and includes two tickets to the event.

Sylvia’s Children Founder Recognized By Energizer Company

Energizer, the brand recognized across the United States for its pink bunny that “keeps on going”, has named Sylvia Allen, founder of Sylvia’s Children, as a semifinalist in the Energizer Keep Going® Hall of Fame.

The Energizer Keep Going® Hall of Fame was created in 2006 to recognize the unsung heroes who inspire others with their perseverance and motivation, who live their lives with the same enthusiasm and never-quit spirit as the Energizer Bunny®. This year the company recognized 100 semifinalists from across the country.

Ms. Allen founded Sylvia’s Children in 2003 after a trip with a mission group introduced her to the Mbiriizi Primary and Day Care School in Uganda, Africa. Struck by the poverty and number of children orphaned as a result of the AIDS pandemic, Ms. Allen was moved when the children at the school invited her to be their grandmother, an honored position in the culture. A staunch believer in the power education; Ms. Allen has been on a tireless crusade to help improve lives of the children at the school by providing more access to and better education. She lives by the motto “helping children, one child at a time”.

Sylvia’s Children raises awareness and funds to educate, feed, clothe and shelter these children, one-quarter of which have been orphaned due to AIDS. The non-profit seeks to help the school create a self-sustainable economy for itself, which will then be shared with schools in surrounding sub-Saharan African villages.
